Meet Kenth Persson

Meet Kenth Persson, Chief Engineer at the M/S Caledonian Sky. Mr Kenth Persson, started as a young engine apprentice on reefer ships way back in 1974 at Salen Shipping, but decided to go back to school when the international shipping crisis took its toll in the later 1970s.

Mr Persson finished his Chief Engineer Exam in 1982 and went back to sea once again – this time he wanted to try the passenger trade. Kenth worked for 19 years on a 1500 passenger ferry between Portland ME US and Yarmouth N.S Canada, starting off as a watch-keeping 3rd engineer working his way up, with the last 3 years in the Chief Engineer position.

After 19 years the company was sold, and he went back to Sweden again sailing on Ro-Ro for 4 years and for a couple of years on handysize oil/chemical tankers.

During his last tanker voyage, he was notified that there was a new company hiring, and the company’s name was no other then Salen Ship Management AB!

“I was so excited because it was in the same company as I started my life at sea!”

Immediately he applied for a position and once an opportunity arose, he received a message asking if he was still interested.

“…and here I am after 8 years working at this company with the plan to be there as long as they want me.” – Kenth Persson, Chief Engineer M/S Caledonian Sky
